Adults 35+ · Tweed Heads South
Most adults who quit karate did not quit because of their age.
They quit because the class was built for twenty-year-olds. So we built one for the body you have now: mobility first, intensity earned, nobody left behind.
$99 for the most structured re-entry into karate your body will actually thank you for.
- Seven in-dojo sessions over three weeks, taught by a 4th Dan. Mobility first, not a bootcamp.
- A 15-minute Junbi Undo warm-up every session, because joints need preparing before anything demanding.
- Sanchin breathing you will use off the mat, at the desk, in traffic, before sleep.
- A Week 4 readiness check. No lock-in. No contract.
Confidence after 40 does not come from a fitness fad. It comes from doing a hard thing, properly, and coming back next week. We build the foundation so your body can.
Or pay $30 a session to a PT who has never taught you to breathe, move well, or defend yourself.
If by Week 4 your body or your life says no, you walk. Keep what you learned.

"Having trained in martial arts in my 20s and 30s, turning 60 this year saw me searching for a new martial art for my physical and mental wellbeing. I found Sensei Sam teaching Goju Ryu. The other students made me very welcome, and today after two months of training I passed my first grading."

"I am in my late 50s and was returning to Goju Ryu after training in my 20s and 30s. Almost a year in and I am so glad I joined. My fitness, strength, flexibility and self-discipline have improved. Sam has an amazing depth of knowledge and an easy teaching technique. I highly recommend Yushukan."
"I am 50 and got my black belt in karate many years ago. I recently felt the call to delve deeper and stumbled across Yushukan. So glad I did. This is the core to all my previous training. It is hard work and good fun. Definitely a school of excellence."
"Yushukan is THE fun way of learning self-defence. You understand by applying the basics through partner work. I started 3 years ago at age 45 and rediscovered self-discipline, perseverance and a natural ambition. I can only imagine how I would feel if I had started earlier."
Direct answers, not slogans.
Am I too old to start karate?
Almost never. Goju Ryu was designed for lifetime practice. Its founder Chojun Miyagi taught into his sixties, and his students taught into their eighties. The question is whether the school you are looking at is built for an adult body. If it begins with mobility, uses Junbi Undo seriously and Sanchin as a posture practice, and runs an honest readiness check before locking you in, you will probably train for decades.
I am unfit, or have old injuries. Is that a problem?
Usually no, if you tell us about it in week one. We adjust the load, modify or skip movements that aggravate, and build around the limits that need building around. Karate Ready Adult begins with mobility, not intensity. The Junbi Undo warm-up runs for a non-negotiable fifteen minutes because the joints need preparation before anything demanding. Many adults discover that consistent training improves the old injuries within weeks.
